The 333 was a new model in 1984, following the 222 of 1977, and this has a diamond set case and dial. Reference 75901/958J
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial numbers on the movement and case we have consulted with Vacheron Constantin and they have dated this watch to being made in 1984. Fewer than 650 men’s versions of the 333 were ever made.
CONDITION
The 222 model from 1977 was so called to celebrate 222 years since Vacheron Constantin were formed in 1755. The 333 seems to have taken a one up approach on the naming, but missed the point of the 222!
This 333 has the full 18k gold case and bracelet, and when Vacheron Constantin make a gold watch it is made to the highest standards rather than to a price. Everything feels heavy and solid, as is should. This example also has the factory set diamond bezel and dial – 129 diamonds in total, split with 33 eight cut diamonds on the dial used as hour markers and 96 brilliant cut stones set into the case. There is no mistaking this was and is a high end luxury item. The size of the watch is very contemporary for the time, and if you have tried a men’s Omega Seamaster Polaris that was launched a few years later they are similar. Now the size is more Unisex. The quartz movement is a 10 jewel calibre 1012 by Vacheron Constantin, and the quick set date at 9 is an unusual feature. To use the quick set date you got back and forward on the crown, rather than just turning the crown one direction. While the case and bracelet have light scratches they are not serious and this natural patina is better than an overpolished watch in our opinion. We will install a brand new battery before sending the watch out to the new owner.
It is amazing that this is worth less than a 31mm diamond set Rolex Datejust, which is positively common next to this Vacheron Constantin 333.
