This late 99KQ King Quartz has the twin quartz movement, which was about as accurate as they come. Model reference 9923-8060 or QFA824.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number on the case back we can accurately date this watch to being made in April 1981. We have also found the same model in the 1982 catalogue, which is good as it shows this model was fitted with a bracelet with the code LA16A – which matches the numbers on the end piece for this bracelet.
CONDITION
To help understand the various different models that Seiko offered, we have collated the prices. The most accurate was the Superior at ¥235,000 in 1981. If that was a little rich for your tastes, you could have the slightly less accurate Grand Quartz at ¥120,000. If that was still more than you wanted to pay, then this King Quartz was ¥48,000. These all basically had the same base movement, with twin quartz technology to provide temperature adjustment to the watch regulation. The more expensive watches were more finely regulated, but the King Quartz 99KQ was still a far better than average quartz watch. This one has day and date complications, with the day wheel being in either English or Kanji, both of which can be quick set. We will install a brand new battery before sending the watch out to the new owner. The gold plated case overall is good, but there is a mark near 9 and on the case back you can see various places where the plating has come away. The glass has a couple of minor scratches but the gold dust dial is very nice indeed. The bracelet is quite long and our sister website, SpareLinks.com, may have extra links if required. The bracelet has been cleaned in our ultrasonic bath. The crown has the twin quartz logo on it.
