HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number on the movement we can accurately date this watch to being made in 1980.
CONDITION
By 1980 most quartz watches were still quite thick, but the fashion was going towards a thinner watch. Premium brands like Concord and Piaget were getting ever thinner, and Jean Lassale were some of the thinnest wearable watches on the market (so much so that Seiko bought Jean Lassale to take advantage of their technology!) Omega launched their calibre 1365 movement and immediately made it more affordable to get an ultra thin quartz watch, such as the De Ville we have here. At just over 5mm thin, this could compete with the more expensive brands at a more affordable price point. It also had no crown – the time is set by pressing in a recess where the crown would be to advance the time by one minute, or press and hold if advancing it more than one minute. The accuracy of quartz meant this wasn’t needed often, but it still works perfectly. The dial is very clean, and the glass scratch free. The 20 micron gold plated case is in very good shape. The smaller size was a gentleman’s watch in 1980, but now would suit anybody. We will install a brand new battery before sending the watch out to the new owner. The leather strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour if preferred.
