The Superior was quite simply the best timekeeper that Seiko could make, and was their top range watch. Model reference 9980-8000 or QGW010.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number on the case back we can accurately date this watch to being made in July 1979. It cost ¥180,000 in the 1980 catalogue, when a basic Seiko quartz could be bought for ¥13,000.
CONDITION
Short of an atomic clock, this was as good as a wrist worn timepiece could get. When new this watch with the twin quartz movement would keep time to within 5 seconds per year, but at a price that cost more than many luxury Swiss watches. The watch is currently running at + one third of a second per day, which could be further improved if the specialist measuring equipment is available but should be good enough for most people. We will install a brand new battery before sending the watch out to the new owner. The case is unpolished, so some small marks will show. The dial is very clean and the glass is also mark free. The integrated original bracelet, code XYB 050, is quite long and our sister website, SpareLinks.com, may have extra links if required. The watch is signed on the dial, case, movement and crown.
This watch will be supplied with our branded and reusable zipped travel case and cleaning cloth, and our Certificate of Authenticity.
This watch has been checked against the Watch Register and has not been reported as lost, stolen or implicated in fraud, and a copy of that certificate will also be included.
