A long service award from Rolls-Royce, this gold Baume watch was hard earned and appears hardly worn.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the inscription on the case back movement we can accurately date this watch to being engraved in 1979. The paperwork is also dated for August 1979, also for Bristol – Rolls-Royce Aerospace still has a large Bristol manufacturing facility. And the inside of the case back is also assayed in Birmingham in 1979, so everything matches.
CONDITION
Baume were a distributor in the UK for two main brands, Vacheron Constantin and Longines, but they also had their own range of watches too. They were a little cheaper than the Longines watch range, but in 1979 a lot of companies had stopped giving gold watches away as the price of gold had quadrupled during the seventies. At least Rolls-Royce honoured their promise to their workers, despite the increased costs. This watch uses a FHF 96 17 jewel manual wind movement, which is all working well. The dial is very clean and the case has only minor marks. The crystal has a couple of marks we only noticed after photography, which we will fix. The leather strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour if preferred.
