The Advan series was Seiko’s more adventurous design range, and this one certainly is unusual! Model reference 7019-7990.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number on the case back we can accurately date this watch to being made in March 1974.
CONDITION
The hologramic dial is obviously the starting point here, but it is not the only unusual feature this Advan has. The case is an unusual shape, and is thicker at 12 than it is at 6. You also have a faceted crystal, which at some angles distorted the hands or wording on the dial. But the dial is the show stopper, despite having a quite a few marks and not being perfect. You then notice the patterning on the hands and hour markers, and then the red stones set into the hour markers for 6, 9 and 12. Inside is more conventional, with a 7019A movement that is automatic wind only and has quick set date, as well as day that can be in Kanji or English. The day too can be quick set by pressing the crown inwards. The crown may be a later replacement, as it doesn’t sit as flush as most Seiko’s from this period (although we have never seen another watch of this model, and it might be to allow for the push to quick set day). The aftermarket bracelet is quite long and our sister website, SpareLinks.com, may have extra links if required. The bracelet has been cleaned in our ultrasonic bath. The watch is signed on the dial, case and movement.
