The Seiko Advan were a funky range, designed to appeal to younger buyers, and none more so than the asymmetrical models. Model reference 6106-7550.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number on the case back we can accurately date this watch to being made in July 1972.
CONDITION
With a wildly offset case it is easy not to immediately notice some of the other features of the watch, such as the heavily faceted glass crystal that can make the hands look slightly bent at some angles. Fittingly for 1972, the gold and black dial has a JPS feel to it too. The dial has concentric rings on it, and does have a little patina. The movement is Seiko’s 25 jewel calibre 6106C, which also features hacking seconds. You do get quick set day and date, and the day can be set to either English or Kanji. The movement can only be wound automatically, with Seiko’s magic fingers technology – it can not be hand wound, hence the crown sits flush with the case. The crystal on these is often chipped, but this is one of the better ones with little marks to report. The bracelet is quite long but some of that is made up from some non matching ‘bonus’ links from a model unknown. They can be removed, but then the bracelet is quite short. It is better to have 80% of the original bracelet than none, so we have kept the bracelet and the signed Advan clasp on the watch. The bracelet has been cleaned in our ultrasonic bath. The watch is signed on the dial, case, movement and clasp.
