This is a really nice example of the earliest Omega f300 model, in the gold capped case. Model reference 198.001.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number on the movement we can accurately date this watch to being made in 1970, which was the first year of f300 production.
CONDITION
The f300 is Omega’s version of the electronic watch. Rather than using a quartz crystal to regulate the time, it uses a tuning fork with technology licensed from Bulova (if you can’t beat them, join them!). This gives an amazingly smooth sweep seconds hand, a distinctive humming noise and superb accuracy – this watch was a certified Chronometer. The same movement, calibre 1250, was used in Seamaster, Geneve and Constellation f300 watches, but this early watch has no sub brand on the dial. We have found other examples documented like this, including in Omega’s Journey through Time book, and this reference did go on to become a Seamaster. Everything is working nicely and we will install a brand new battery before sending the watch out to the new owner. The case is gold capped – a thing layer of gold (14k according to the aforementioned book but not hallmarked) is pressed over a stainless steel case. This is much thicker than gold plating, but also gives the core strength of steel to make the watch stronger. There is just slight pitting on the case back. The brown leather strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour if preferred. The watch is fitted with the original signed crown, buckle and acrylic glass, and the dial condition is extremely good, with the hands showing just a little discolouration. The case is unpolished, with minor blemishes, but the brushing is still visible.
This watch will be supplied with our branded presentation box and our Certificate of Authenticity.
This watch has been checked against the Watch Register and has not been reported as lost, stolen or implicated in fraud, and a copy of that certificate will also be included.

From 1st September 2021 we will be planting a tree for every watch we sell, working with the International Tree Foundation (Est 1922) to make this business positive on carbon. By buying anything pre owned you are effectively reusing what already exists, but this takes it further and makes us feel good.
