This King Seiko has a high beat movement and pure ‘grammar of design’ styling to rival it’s grander cousins. Model reference 45-7001.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number on the case back owe can accurately date this watch to being made in December 1970. The 45-7001 was in production between 1968 and 1974, and this model has the earlier case back marked water proof rather than water resistant. Technically they are the same, other than the wording!
CONDITION
King Seiko watches were cheaper than the Grand Seiko versions, but in reality there is not that much between them. This watch has a high beat (36,600 bph) calibre 4500A movement, which is still better than the vast majority of watches made today. The 10 beats per second allow for a smoother second hand. and made the movement easier to adjust. The 25 jewel movement is manually wound via the signed KS crown, and was the last hand built King Seiko movement. The simple design on the outside is typical of the Grammar of Design philosophy any Seiko collector will be familiar with. The dial does have some marks, and the movement does move slightly in the case when being wound. The case back has some marks from tools slipping but is not polished like many, and the gold centre logo with the symbol for the Daini factory is crisp. The glass has some scratches, most noticeably near 10. The leather strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour if preferred.
This watch will be supplied with an original Seiko presentation box and our Certificate of Authenticity. We do not know if King Seiko models came in King Seiko boxes, but this box is of the right period.
