This square case Geneve shares many design ideas with the oval Dynamic models, but wasn’t called the Dynamic until 1972. Model reference 166.081.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number on the movement we can accurately date this watch to being made in 1969. You can see the model on a leather strap on Omega’s own website here. However we also have the original papers, showing the same serial number, that shows that the watch was sold in 1971. Either year would be valid for a birth year watch.
CONDITION
A 39mm square case is quite large today, but in 1969 it was enormous. The oval Dynamic models actually wear a little smaller than this does, but they both use the same method of attaching the strap or bracelet that were all interchangeable. The straps can be a little expensive to buy, so the bracelet is a real bonus on this model. The bracelet is quite long and our sister website, SpareLinks.com, may have extra links if required. The bracelet has been cleaned in our ultrasonic bath. Inside the case is the lovely calibre 565, a 24 jewel automatic with swan neck fine adjustment. You will rarely get to see it as the movement is removed via the front of the case, so people need a few tools and experience to try and have a look. The calibre 565 was soon replaced by the 1000 series movements, but you can always tell a 565 as the quick set date is worked by pulling the crown outwards. The blue dial is in good shape, as are the hands, and this is ready to wear. The glass has a few minor marks, but is an Omega original part with the Ω symbol in the centre.
