This gold capped automatic men’s Omega is branded for both De Ville and Seamaster – not something they would do today. Model reference 165.008.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number on the movement we can accurately date this watch to being made in 1968.
CONDITION
The Seamaster Deville range only lasted for a few years, but it was Omega saying that they could make a dress watch suitable for the De Ville market, but also put it in a water resistant case to qualify it as a Seamaster. This 6x signed example is in good shape. The dial is clean and original, with just a few tiny marks. The case back does have some tool slip marks, but the hippocampus logo hasn’t worn down. The gold capped case is vastly superior to gold plating, being on average four or eight times thicker than 20 or 10 micron gold plating. There is a pin head dink between 2 and 3 on the bezel, but that should’t put off anyone. The movement used is Omega’s copper coloured automatic calibre 711, with a 24 jewels and it was adjusted to 2 positions when new. It is working well, and can be hand wound too. The leather strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour or material if preferred. The watch is signed on the dial, case, movement, crown, crystal and buckle.
