This slim Omega De Ville dress watch has a linen dial and the coveted calibre 711 automatic movement. Model reference 165.008.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number on the movement we can accurately date this watch to being made in 1968.
CONDITION
A new Omega De Ville Prestige automatic is nearly 11mm thick, whereas the vintage watch here is far more svelte at 7.8mm. (the new watch also costs eight times as much too!). Dress watches should be slim, to make sure it slides under as cuff with ease. The 1968 watch fits the brief perfectly. The linen dial is very clean, and the tritium and black painted hands are straight. The paint allows for good legibility. The stainless steel case has a screw down case back and the worst mark is on the non crown side, as pointed out in the video. The crown is signed, as is the crystal, but the crown is quite small and therefore difficult to grip when pressed against the case – thankfully the slim calibre 711 movement is automatic, so if you have bigger fingers then the watch will run happily without the crown needed to be turned. The leather strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour or material if preferred. The watch is signed on the dial, case, movement, crown and crystal.
