The Sportsmatic-P was a more unusual model in the Seiko line up, with a push button quick set date. Model reference 5106-8010.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number on the case back we can accurately date this watch to being made in August 1967.
CONDITION
The Sportsmatic-P was a step up from the standard Seiko 5 range. The most noticeable upgrades were to the movement. This Sportsmatic-P has calibre 5106A, which has 33 jewels and quick set date set within the crown, as well as hacking on the movement. Possibly the biggest advantage is the movement can be hand wound as well as having the auto winding works, which is excellent if you are in a desk job or similar that maybe doesn’t involve so much movement. The case is also just a little larger, which wide lugs that are reminiscent of some of the King and Grand Seiko models. Overall condition is rather good – the case appears unpolished, and the dial only has tiny marks. The hexagonal pusher in the round crown is an unusual design choice, but it is all working correctly and the round crown is not dented (most are). The leather strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour if preferred.
