This men’s Bulova Date King K wears a little larger than most from the time, thanks to the rectangular case.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
The serial number on the case back shows this was made in 1964, but the serial number on the movement is for 1964. As the watch could not have been completed until 1964 this is the date of production.
CONDITION
Normally Bulova watches do have a model name, but it doesn’t always appear on the dial. This is the case here, but on the very useful MyBulova.com we have seen another example for 1964 called a Date King K – there are other Date King models with different suffix letters too. It is good specification, with the case being made from 10k rolled gold. This rolled gold is much thicker than gold plating, and therefore preferable. Inside the case is a Bulova 11ALD calibre, which has seventeen jewels and semi quick set date. This is all working well. The expanding bracelet came on the watch, and like the watch doesn’t show many signs of wear at all. It is made by Kreisler, a US company and is gold capped too. We do not know if it is original to the watch or a later replacement, but as it suits the watch so well and is quality so we have left it on. A leather strap could be fitted instead if preferred.
