HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number on the inside of the case back we can accurately date this watch to being made in 1962.
CONDITION
The Crown range were above the Sportsman and Laurel ranges in the early 1960’s, and the Crown Special was the top of that model line, sitting just under the newly released Grand Seiko. In fact the movement in the Crown Special shared components with the Grand Seiko, and had the same hacking mechanism. The calibre 341 movement was available in either 19 or 23 jewels, and this watch has the higher jewel count. It is hand wound via the signed crown that is still in place, but the case does have some wear from years of hand winding. The case top is 14k gold filled, and the back is stainless steel. The dial is original but does have some marks near 1 and 2, as well as general patina. The leather strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour or material if preferred. The watch is signed on the dial, case, movement and crown.
