A highly prized early Seiko Champion Calendar men’s watch.  Model reference 15032E

HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?

From the serial number on the inside of the case back we can accurately date this watch to being made in May 1962.

CONDITION

The 1960’s were a very important decade for Seiko.  The Grand Seiko was launched in 1960, and the company was chosen to be the official timer of the Tokyo Olympics in 1964.  Their first divers watch was launched in 1965, and the decade closed with the worlds first commercially offered quartz movement.  In so many ways it was the most important decade in the companies history.  But early watches don’t come around very often, so even with some of the cosmetic issues this watch has it will still be popular.  The case is 20m gold plated, and around the case back this has chipped off leaving an ugly marks that have discoloured green, and the plating on and around the crown is also worn off.  A new crown is an easy thing to fit, but it would stand out against the patina on the case so we have left it original.    Inside is the original Seikosha calibre 45 movement, a nineteen jewel movement with semi quick set date.  The movement is running okay but will probably need a service soon – the price reflects this, as we have seen worse watches fetch more in auction.  The dial has crosshairs and nice script, but also has some patina.  The gold coloured rehaut is a nice design feature, not dissimilar to the Universal Geneve Polerouter (but on the Champion Calendar it is thinner).  This is not the very best example of the Champion Calendar , but the best are now £600+.  The leather strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour if preferred.

This watch will be supplied with our branded presentation box and our Certificate of Authenticity.
