Presented by Ind Coope Brewery, this gold Longines watch was reward for almost 44 years loyal service.

HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?

From the engraving on the case back, which matches the paperwork,  we can accurately date this watch to being presented in April 1960.  Being academic, the watch movement was made in 1955 and the case was assayed in 1957, but the more significant date will be 1960.

CONDITION

The movement was imported by Longines (and Vacheron Constantin’s) UK agent Baume, and cased here in a Dennison 9k gold case.  This was quite normal, as completed gold watches attracted very high tariff’s from the customs men, so many companies used English casemakers and supplied movements.  The movement Longines supplied is the calibre 12.68ZS, which is a bit of a peach.  You won’t find many modern watches with the main train jewels set in chantons, for extra long life and serviceability, but that is what the gold rings around the jewels are fitted to this watch.  The dial has some spotting, and a dent near three, but is otherwise quite clean.  The case has some tool marks and the case back has a light dent.  The leather strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour if preferred.

This watch will be supplied with the original presentation box, papers and our Certificate of Authenticity.  The papers are in the same name as the case back, and the box has the same initials on, so the provenance of these three items being together since 1960 is excellent and rare to find.
