This ladies Longines cocktail watch has a solid gold case and bracelet, as well as the manual wind movement. Model reference 10512.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number on the movement we can accurately date this to being made in 1959. However the London hallmark is for 1960, and the two could not have been paired together until 1960.
CONDITION
This ladies Longines watch is a very classy piece. The bracelet is probably the biggest attraction – it feels solid but not stiff, and the centre channel in the top does reflect the light nicely. Like the case, it was made by David Shackman & Sons for Baume, who were the official importer for Longines and Vacheron Constantin. The case and bracelet was made in England to avoid the punitive import duty on complete gold watches at this time. Longines would have imported the movement, dial, hands and crown to be fitted into the case, thus legally avoiding the import tax. The movement in this ladies Longines is their calibre 13.15V, which is a seventeen jewel manual wind item which is working well. The original dial is in very good condition, especially considering the time this was made and the amount of cigarette smoke which was around. Everything is in quite good condition, with little to report back, but one link on the bracelet does slide laterally – as shown in the video. The short bracelet is integrated into the case and will not be able to easily be extended without a goldsmith, so please carefully measure your wrist before ordering. The bracelet has been cleaned in our ultrasonic bath.
