A larger than average solid gold Certina men’s wrist watch, with sub seconds dial.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the Edinburgh hallmark on the inside of the case back we can date this watch to being made assayed engraved in 1959, but the inscription on the case back shows it was presented in November 1961.
CONDITION
Until the gold price spiked in the 1970’s it was quite common to get a gold watch for a period of long service to a company. This watch is likely to have fulfilled that role, but the engraving doesn’t mention any company so it may just have been personal inscription – truth is we won’t ever know for certain. The watch is larger than most at 35mm, when 32 or 33mm was more common. It still retains a slim profile though. The dial has patina all over it, which at least shows it is original. The 15 jewel Certina 23-20 movement is running nicely and these in house movements are nice to wind, even if the winder has lost the gold plating at some point. The tan leather strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour if preferred. The new buckle is gold plated.
This watch will be supplied with our branded presentation box and our Certificate of Authenticity.

From 1st September 2021 we will be planting a tree for every watch we sell, working with the International Tree Foundation (Est 1922) to make this business positive on carbon. By buying anything pre owned you are effectively reusing what already exists, but this takes it further and makes us feel good.
