This full rotor automatic Seamaster should appeal to many Omega collectors, or just someone who wants a nice watch! Model reference 2846.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number on the movement we can accurately date this watch to being made in 1958.
CONDITION
The Seamaster range was introduced in 1948, and they added some water resistance to the Omega dress watches – likely as a response to the 1945 released Rolex Datejust. Many of the earlier Seamasters will have a bumper automatic movement, where the rotor swings between two springs in a arc of about 270 degrees. However, a full rotor automatic is far more efficient and the calibre 501 was launched in 1955 to replace the bumper autos. We have the 20 jewel version in this watch, with the distinctive copper finish of Omega movements back then. You also get a swan neck adjustment on the balance for fine adjustment, a feature you would struggle to find on all but the highest range of watches today. This watch also has the original signed, 4 lobe crown that collectors do like to see. The dial has some marks and the lume in the dagger hands has some dirt too. The leather strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour or material if preferred – the buckle may be a modern copy. The watch is signed on the dial, case, movement, crown, crystal, clasp, buckle and strap.
