This Longines mystery dial is a simple yet different way to show the time of the dial. Model reference 1053.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number on the movement we can accurately date this watch to being made in 1957.
CONDITION
A mystery dial is no real mystery at all. Instead of an hour hand, there is a disc in the centre of the watch that turns. The skill is making the dial look like one piece, which demands fine tolerances and clever design. Happily Longines are very good at these two things, and the effect of the hour marker floating around is very nice. This is no novelty watch though – Longines were making some of their finest watches ever in the 1950’s, and this is no exception. The manual wind movement is their calibre 23Z, which is all running well. The case is 10k gold filled, whicvh is a much thicker coating than gold plate, and it shows no significant signs of damage or wear. The dial has some wear around the very edges, but it is overall nice. The leather strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour if preferred.

From 1st September 2021 we will be planting a tree for every watch we sell, working with the International Tree Foundation (Est 1922) to make this business positive on carbon. By buying anything pre owned you are effectively reusing what already exists, but this takes it further and makes us feel good.
