This early Omega Ladymatic is set in a 14k gold case, which indicates it was meant to go to the US market.  Model reference SC2811.

HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?

From the serial number on the movement we can accurately date this watch to being made in 1956.

CONDITION

The Ladymatic range was launched by Omega in 1955, and was unusual in that Omega sold the technical side of the movement in a time when women were not expected to understand such things.  Each watch housed either the calibre 450 or the Calibre 455, the latter being used in this model and has the benefit of a sweep second hand.  These were the smallest automatic movements with a full rotor ever made, and the fact that Omega submitted some of them for COSC testing was testament to the quality of design and materials used.

This watch is running okay, and the 14k solid gold case is small but without major damage.  There is a light inscription on the back, for F. HOYLES.  The leather strap is new, and the horn style lugs are a design plus.  Having the original box is great too, as these alone are valuable commodities.  Because this is a small watch the highly enlarged photos show ever mark at their absolute worst – it does look better in the flesh.

This watch will be supplied with the original presentation box, and our Certificate of Authenticity.

Please see the HD video for more detail.  All photos and videos are part of the description and are of the actual watch unless mentioned.  We do not photoshop any pictures, and the images are copyright of birthyearwatches.com and should not be used without permission.
