This Craftsman 303 has a quality 15 jewel Smiths movement inside a larger than average case.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the Edinburgh hallmark on the inside of the case back we can accurately date this watch to being assayed in 1953.
CONDITION
The Craftsman line were sold by Sears, Roebuck in the USA as their in house brand. The movement is unusual in that it is the 15 jewel Smiths Calibre 12.15. This was made in Cheltenham and mainly fitted to Smiths and JW Benson watches (reclassified 12.16, as the JW Benson watches had 16 jewels). The case is made by BWC and fully hallmarked for 0.375 / 9k gold, and it is larger than average – about 1.5mm wider than the aforementioned JW Benson watches. There is a dent on the crown side towards the bottom, but it is almost impossible to see on the wrist. The dial does have some patina, shown in the video, and one small scratch on the left hand side. The leather strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour if preferred – the burgundy colour strap shown is actually 1mm too small, but we liked the colour on this watch.
This watch will be supplied with our branded presentation box and our Certificate of Authenticity.
