A nice example of a 14k rolled gold Bulova Senator, with a definitive date mark showing it was made in 1947.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number on the movement we can accurately date this watch to being made in 1947.
CONDITION
Rolled gold is made by having two sheets of gold, sandwiching a base metal inner layer. Bulova were one of the best at making these cases, although they were often in 10k rolled gold and this one is the higher standard of 14k rolled gold. The movement is also the 17 jewel version of the 8AE instead of the 15 jewel version, so the Senator much have been a higher model than most. The copper coloured dial does have a nasty scratch between seven and nine, and the paint on the hour markers is patchy (this has been tested and is not radium paint). The watch is winding and setting correctly, and running nicely. The black leather strap shown in the video is new, and could be swapped for a different colour or material if preferred – the tan leather strap in the photos was damaged and had to be removed. The watch is signed on the dial and movement.
