A lovely 9k gold men’s manual wind vintage tank style watch, with hinged case and Breguet hands, with a fitted case.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the rubbed hallmark on the case back we can date this watch to being assayed in Sheffield in 1923. The case back also features the ‘hammer and handle’ makers mark that was used in Switzerland, but sadly the maker allocated number 127 is not recorded.
CONDITION
The watch is a great size for the period, very wearable today. The dial features some guilloche work in the centre, but not being dust or water resistant the dial has some light dirt – it is nearly 100 years old! The blued Breguet style hands are nice, and the painted numerals are complete (we like the open 6 and 9!). The box, from the Northern Goldsmiths Company, is a nice fit and may be the original. The Northern Goldsmiths store has recently been refurbished. The strap is old, soft leather and a little worn – if you want a new strap then we can fit one, but the old one is secure and somehow more fitting. The movement is from the AS340 range, and is working very well. There are a few light marks to the acrylic crystal, which given how clear it is is probably a later replacement. The case hinge is tight, as it should be, and clips together nicely. The sides of the watch are engraved with a scroll pattern.
This watch will be supplied with the presentation box and our Certificate of Authenticity.
