This open faced Waltham Traveler pocket watch has a Dennison 14k gold filled case, and is all in good order.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number on the movement we can accurately date this watch to being made in 1905. There is an engraving on the inside dust cover that looks to be 1908, which is likely to have been when this person got the watch. The rest of the engraving is not clear.
CONDITION
The US spelling of Traveler gives this away as an American made watch, in Waltham, Massachusetts to be exact. But the case is made by Dennison of London, as stamped ALD. The case is made using two sheets of 14k gold, with a base metal sheet in between. This provided the look and feel of solid gold, but at a reduce cost and so strong was this technique that the case was guaranteed not to show wear for 25 years. Although that 25 year guarantee expired over 90 years ago the case still isn’t showing any significant wear, but does have a small dent in the rear case. and a small dink on the bezel. The dial is clean and does have two hairline cracks, running down from 12, but no loose material, and the blued hands are straight and true. The manual wind 16 jewel movement is working well.
This watch will be supplied with a simple presentation box and our Certificate of Authenticity.
