This rare triple calendar, destro chronograph Spiral VIP watch from Dubey & Schaldenbrand was originally $9,995.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
Whilst we don’t have any paperwork for this watch, we have seen it first shown in the Wristwatch Annual books in 2009. This watch is only a two digit serial number, so must be quite early in this series.
CONDITION
There is a lot going on with this watch. Firstly, the watch is destro, or left hand crown and pushers, which is designed to make it more comfortable to wear on the right hand for left handed people. However it is comfortable on both wrists, partly thanks to the hinged lugs. Then you get a very complex movement which incorporates a full calendar and chronograph, as well as automatic winding, moonphase and a 24 hour indicator. The latter is very useful when setting up the date, which can be quick set via the crown, with the day of the week being quick set via the pusher at 4. Although this is based on an Valjoux ebauche, everything you can see via the sapphire crystal exhibition case back has been hand engraved to a high standard. The Spiral part of the name refers to the hairspring like spring on the dial side of the watch, on the centre seconds hand. Everything is working correctly, and condition is very good – the blue leather strap is nearly new, and may be the original. The watch is signed on the dial, case, movement, folding clasp and strap.
