It is not often you see the SL Automatic with folding lugs, as IWC which is a crying shame as it is a very wearable watch. Model reference 3528.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
The supplied paperwork, which matches the serial number of the watch and is stamped for Harrods, is frustrating as the date year has smudged off, but it looks to start with a zero. We have a copy of the IWC catalogue for 1999 which shows this model at 2,900CHF, and the date the instruction manuals were printed is not earlier than 1998. Shortly after 2000 IWC switched from Tritium lume that this watch has to Luminova on the dial and hands, so it can’t be much later than 2000 either.
CONDITION
As an extension to the Da Vinci range, the SL Automatic sat somewhere between the sportier Mark XV and the dressier Portofino models. The case is hugely wearable at 37mm and under 10mm thick, but this is helped by having the folding lugs to allow it to sit comfortably on the wrist. Inside the matte stainless steel case is the IW37524 21 jewel automatic movement, which was adjusted to five positions when new for maximum accuracy. It has quick set date via the signed, screw down crown and hacking seconds. It is also nicely finished, and a bit of a shame not to see it as it is hidden behind a screwed down case back. The screw down crown is a little clue to the original water resistance rating of 120M. The IWC leather strap shown is used but we will swap this for a new strap (not by IWC) and include the original for the history. The watch is signed on the dial, case, movement, crown, buckle and strap.
This watch will be supplied with an original IWC service box, original papers, our cleaning cloth and our Certificate of Authenticity.
This watch has been checked against the Watch Register and has not been reported as lost, stolen or implicated in fraud, and a copy of that certificate will also be included.
