HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
The Les Historiques 1935 range was launched in 1998, and we have a record of this exact model in the 1999 Wristwatch Annual and each book until 2004. We are suggesting this watch was made/sold circa 1999.
CONDITION
If you like the idea of a 1935 watch you have to make some compromises. Any watch from 1935 will not have anti shock protection on the balance, as it wasn’t invented. It might also be smaller than you want, it won’t be automatic, calendar functions were still rare and you will have acrylic crystal covering radium lume. Some of these compromises put some people off these older watches, and that is where the Les Historiques 1935 comes in. It has shock protection, it has an automatic movement with calendar and quickset, it has sapphire crystal covering the modern lume and it is just a few millimetres larger in every direction. The case has a few marks,particularly underneath six, but the dial is excellent. The ETA 2691 movement is running nicely – ETA was an offshoot of ETernA so always good to see the two back together. The leather strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour if preferred.
