This TAG Heuer 4000 is the full size automatic – in other words the one everyone wants. Model reference WF2110
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
Launched in 1990 and effectively replaced in 1997 by the Kirium model, the earlier watches had a different model reference. Post 1992 the WF2110 reference was used, so we are estimating this was made circa 1994.
CONDITION
The 4000 range was unusual in that there wasn’t much of a range. You could choose between a few dial colours, metal, bracelet and quartz or automatic, and the three case sizes were there, but they all looked very similar. There was no chronograph, nor a chronometer. Now the options everyone want are the full size, preferably in stainless steel, with bracelet, and the automatic movement over the quartz. This watch ticks all those boxes.
It is easy to forget the 4000 was also a fully paid up divers watch, with a 200m depth rating. You have the 60 click unidirection bezel, which is still turning positively, and the screw down crown. The bracelet is solid linked, rather than the folded links on the 2000 series, and also has the flip lock wet suit extension still operational. The bracelet has been cleaned in our ultrasonic bath. The dial is very clean, although the hands have some dirt on the lumed parts. Under the screw down case back is an ETA 2824 movement, still used by TAG Heuer today and rebranded calibre 5. All features including the quick set date are working well. The paint in the red and green TAG Heuer logo at 12 is all good, with is nice to find on these.
