HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
It is hard to date Oris watches without paperwork, but we have this exact model in a 1992 catalogue so this must have been produced around the same time. We also have the same model in a 1994 German price list, and the model is quoted there as having been replaced by a watch costing 735 DM.
CONDITION
The Oris company had a management buyout in the early eighties, where many Swiss companies were going bust due to cheaper quartz watches coming in from the Far East. The took the unusual and brave decision to not make any quartz watches, and from then on would only make mechanical watches. This raise in standards not only saved the company, but has allowed it to thrive.
So this watch has an ETA 2824-2, 25 jewel automatic movement inside when competition from companies like Zenith, Gucci and TAG Heuer would sell you a quartz watch for the same price, or higher. It has a date window at 12, and this can be quick set. The rest of the styling is quite traditional, and as well as the term Automatic-Winder on the dial also states it is Antimagnetic. The gold plated case is in good condition with just very minor wear on the lugs. The dial and hands are clean, and the acrylic glass is unmarked. The leather strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour if preferred.
