This full size steel and 18k gold Seamaster 200 was only nicknamed the Pre Bond once Pierce Brosnan wore the later version. Model reference 396.1041.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
Normally you can tell from the serial number printed on the inside of the case back what year Omega watches were made. But in the 1980’s they switched to printing it rather than engraving it, and when parts get cleaned at service the serial numbers disappear too. But this watch has the earlier features of the Pre Bond – single rather than double bracelet clasp, six lobe crown that the later ones used a more regular round crown, and the simpler case back without the hippocampus Seamaster logo. As the Seamaster Pre Bond ran from 1988 to 1994, we think this one was built around 1990.
CONDITION
Omne other way to help tell an early from a late Seamaster 200 is the very earliest used a very high precision quartz movement, but this watch has had a later ETA movement , reference 255.461. This is the same as Omega used and rebranded the 1438, but this one is not rebranded so may be a later replacement. It also looks like the mercedes hands, another indicator of an earlier watch, were replaced as they still glow and are a different colour to the original dial lume. We will install a brand new battery before sending the watch out to the new owner. The watch is fully working, and when new would have cost CHF 1875. The plain all steel version was much cheaper at CHF800, and the difference is easier to understand when you learn that the bezel is solid gold, and the inlay on the links are gold too and not just plated. The bezel is notchy to move, and doesn’t quite align perfectly, but the screw down crown is smooth and signed. The glass is good, and the clasp on the bracelet has not lost the gold logo that many do. The bracelet is quite long and our sister website, SpareLinks.com, may have extra links if required. The watch is signed on the dial, case, crown, and clasp.
This watch will be supplied with the original presentation box, albeit missing the watch C clip, and our Certificate of Authenticity.
