The unisex sized Must de Cartier was an instant success, and is still hugely popular today.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
We don’t have the papers for this watch, but we know the later models didn’t have the roman numerals on every hour marker, just 3, 6, 9 and 12.
CONDITION
Cartier used to sell just 3,000 watches a year, Worldwide. In 1977 they launched the Must de Cartier watch line, using manual or quartz movements and with gold plated silver cases, and it is fair to say it was a huge success. The price of around $500 made these expensive, but more obtainable than the gold or platinum Cartier watches, and soon annual sales were up to around 160,000. The first thing to look for on any Must de Cartier is the condition of the gold plating, and this one is pretty good. Inside there is the set and forget Cartier 690, an 8 jewel quartz movement with Côtes de Genève movement striping for the watchmaker to admire. There are fakes of these watches out there, so it is important to make sure you have the correct movement fitted and be wary of anyone not showing you the movement. We will install a brand new battery before sending the watch out to the new owner. The crown has the cabachon polished stone as it should, which is not chipped or cracked. The leather strap is used, and could be swapped for a different colour or material if preferred, and the buckle appears to the be the original (they were never signed but are distinctive). The watch is signed on the dial, case and movement.
This watch will be supplied with an original Cartier presentation pouch, likely later, our Certificate of Authenticity and cleaning cloth.
This watch has been checked against the Watch Register and has not been reported as lost, stolen or implicated in fraud, and a copy of that certificate will also be included.
