HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
Porsche Design started working with IWC to make their watches in 1978 until 1995. It is difficult to find out too much about their model ranges, but we have found another example with the same design with papers from 1984. It appears that after this date the branding changed from IWC (with the International Watch Co. Schaffhausen in script underneath), to Porsche Design, by IWC.
CONDITION
IWC pioneered the use of Titanium in watch cases – although Citizen were the first to do this, IWC were the first to make a chronograph case and it is this hard, light material that they used for cases and bracelets on most of their Porsche Design models. Back in the mid eighties this would have been one of the most desirable watches to own – not only did you have the cutting edge material of Titantium, but you also had the latest in Quartz technology inside, allowing you a very slim and incredibly accurate wristwatch. The movement in this IWC is a calibre 2250, but this is heavily based on the reliable ETA 955 series but far more elaborately finished. A new battery will be fitted prior to it being sent out. The case back screws down, and the case back still has the original case back protective sticker on. We would be tempted to remove this. The case, crystal, dial and bracelet are in in excellent condition and quite difficult to fault. The only real downside is that the bracelet is shorter than average, so please measure your wrist before ordering.
