A stylish Cartier Santos Vendome watch from a top notch maker, just serviced. This has the typical Cartier looks – roman numerals, exposed screws and blued hands, but not the typical Cartier price.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From our research we can see these watches were available in 1983-1985, so we date this watch to circa 1983.
This watch has just had a new old stock Cartier 81 movement fitted, so the internals are like new. The dial doesn’t give away that it is a quartz movement, and with no second hand ticking or sweeping only you and whoever you entrust to change the battery will ever know. Mechanical Cartier watches are more collectible, but start at twice the price of this one.
The watch shows no real marks or damage, with the dial and sapphire crystal perfect. The strap and buckle are not genuine Cartier items, but of good quality. The watch would be supplied in a Cartier box that we have bought to match the watch. The box does have some wear, and the typical crazing and lifting of the leatherette, which as actually one way of knowing it is the genuine item and not a later copy box!
Approximately 34.5 mm wide including the sapphire crown, a very slim 5.0 mm thick. Takes a 16 mm strap.
