HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
While we can’t find a date for this exact model, we do know that the movement was first launched in 1982. That period also perfectly fits the style and size of the watch.
CONDITION
A watch can be called ultrathin if it is under 5mm thick. It is usually left to high end brands like Vacheron Constantin or Piaget, but quartz movements eventually got good enough to be able to bring slimmer movements to the masses. 5mm is still a challenge though, so you can understand why some brands shared the development costs. So the Audemars Piguet calibre 2608, and Jaeger-LeCoultre calibre 608, both use the same movement as this Universal Geneve 17. To the best of our knowledge, it was only these three premium brands that ever used it. We will install a brand new battery before sending the watch out to the new owner. The gold plating is all good, and the size might be small by today’s standards but that works well for dress watches that are supposed to be discreet. The leather strap is the original signed Universal Geneve one, with little to no wear. The watch is signed on the dial, case, movement, strap and crown.
