The Eterna KonTiki can legitimately be considered a rival to an Omega Seamaster, and this is a highly original example. Model reference 633.1519.41.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
The movement used in this watch was in production between 1979 and 1982, so we think this watch was made circa 1980.
CONDITION
Kon-Tiki was a balsa wood raft, but in 1947 Norwegian Thor Hyyerdahl and his crew set out to prove that ancient people could have sailed from South America to Polynesia on such simple craft. After 97 days, they landed in Polynesia, each crew member wearing an Eterna watch. This is how the line of Kontiki watches began. The movement used is naturally an ETA, as ETA used to belong to Eterna (ETernA), and the 25 jewel automatic has quick set date and is running nicely – originally this was adjusted to six positions and temperatures, which is a very high standard indeed. It can be hand wound via the signed, screw down crown. The styling definitely takes some clues from a Datejust, but is different enough to not be an exact homage. This is a very original example, in good order. The bracelet is quite long and our sister website, SpareLinks.com, may have extra links if required. The bracelet has been cleaned in our ultrasonic bath. The watch is signed on the dial, case, movement, crown, crystal and clasp.
