This rare Zenith Espada uses an ESA movement, and is definitely inspired by military watches.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the styling and production dates of the movement we can date this watch to circa 1979.
CONDITION
Zenith have been making watches in Le Locle, Switzerland, for over 150 years and we always get excited by offering one we haven’t seen before. With the lumed numbers, black dial and white hands it very much looks the military item – if it had fixed lugs we would suspect this was built to try and win a military contract. The actual condition of this example is very good, with the unpolished case showing all the bevels nicely. The crystal has very slight crazing to the area above 10, but not enough to consider a replacement. The case back is stamped with the production number 01 0520 425, and the crown carries the Zenith logo. It is currently fitted to an 18mm leather one piece strap, which suits the military look perfectly.
SIZE
Approximately 37.6 mm wide including the signed crown, 8.7 mm thick. Takes a 19 mm strap.
