This Felca Sportsmaster XX is quite a rare and bold watch, with nice quality too.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
This movement was made between 1974 and 1979, and with the lack of anything more concrete we have picked a mid point of circa 1977 for the production date.
CONDITION
Like the Bulova Super Seville, which uses the same ETA movement, this watch was designed to have many of the same styling clues as the Rolex President. Clearly the Day Date layout is the same, and the fluted bezel is very similar too. But Felca have made their watch definitely different – the orange seconds hand and the graduated dial certainly make this stand apart from the Rolex and Bulova. Of course the Rolex is in a different class when it comes to quality. This Felca has a 20 micron gold plated case for example instead of 18k solid gold. But this is not the price of the Rolex either. The case shows marks, most noticeably between the lugs where a bracelet has dug into the case in the past. We have fitted a new leather strap to pick up the colour from the dial. There are marks on the dial too, and the hands, but this watch does keep catching the eye and it is easy to forgive the marks. The 25 jewel ETA 2834 movement is running well and has quick set for both day and date.
