This square cased Town + Country has a great dial and wears larger than the dimension suggest. Model reference 914 3746 41
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the lack of serial number on the case back we know this watch is post 1974, and further research shows this watch in the 1975, 1976 and 1977 Certina brochures. But only in 1977 do we see this exact model reference. Sadly we do not have access to either a 1978 or 1979 brochure, so we can not rule it out being made in those years but the model is not in the 1980 brochure.
CONDITION
The case is all stainless steel, and has four screws holding everything together. These ‘clamshell’ designs were considered waterproof when new. We don’t polish watch cases here, so the case will show light marks but this is preferable to overpolishing a watch. The steel bracelet has been cleaned in our ultrasonic bath, and still has the signed clasp. The movement is an in house Certina calibre 25-652 with day and date calendar and it is running well. The highlight however is the blue dial, which has textures brushed on to help reflect the light. The acrylic crystal has been polished to remove scratches, and does not have any cracks. This Town + Country model would have been quite old fashioned in 1977, when everyone wanted quartz or LCD watches, but now it has come into its own.
