This NOS Royce men’s vintage automatic watch has a high specification to match the condition. Model reference 111.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
This watch came from a family jewellers who changed which watch brands they sold in 1975, and we bought the remaining stock from them 50 years later! It may be older than 1975, but it will not be newer and it was available to buy in 1975.
CONDITION
This watch is New Old Stock (NOS), and as such has never been sold and has probably only been worn for our photography. There is however a small small mark to the gold plating new two, but otherwise the condition is as good as you are likely to find – that mark may be the reason it wasn’t sold when new. The shop price tag is still attached, and back in 1975 this was £48.90. The case is 20 micron gold plated, with a steel screw down case back. Inside is a Felsa 4006N automatic movement with 41 jewels, although many of these are non functional and were decorative just to bump up the jewel count (turning it up to 11…). The day and date are both roulette style, alternating between black and red text every day with the date, and the day is black on every day except Sunday when it is red text. Neither can be quick set, so you have to wind the hands forward to set the date and then backwards to set the day of the week as we show in the video. The crystal has a magnifier set under the glass. The leather strap isn’t signed, but has a hand written sticker with some age on it saying ref 111 (the same as the case). The watch is signed on the dial, case, movement and crown.
