This Eterna-Matic has had a very easy life, probably resting in the original box for most of the time.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
The clues here can be found in the movement. First introduced in 1974, the movement didn’t feature a serial number (that we use to date more accurately the earlier Eterna watches.) So the movement is 1974 onwards, and we estimate this was made in 1975.
CONDITION
It is becoming much harder to find watches like this now. There is one pinprick dent on the crown side, but other than the only other thing to report is the case back has some tool marks. The matte dial is very clean, visible behind the original signed acrylic crystal. The crown is also signed, and the watch is still on the original buckle (also in exceptional condition.) The leather strap is not marked Eterna, but it would not surprise us if it were original. The movement is Eterna’s calibre 12484, which went on to be better known as the ETA 2484 (ETA is an abbreviation of ETernA, but now a separate business) it is running well and has the quick set date to make this easy to live with as part of a collection.
This watch will be supplied with the original presentation box, the outer cardboard sleeve (tatty) and our Certificate of Authenticity.
