This elliptical case and integrated bracelet on the Girard-Perregaux look a lot like another Swiss brand.  Model reference 9977RA.

HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?

Girard-Perregaux watches are difficult to date, but going on the styling and movement production dates we estimate this was made circa 1974.

CONDITION

Oval cases were quite the thing since Patek Philippe introduced the Golden Ellipse in 1968.  The case and bracelet are stainless steel, but may have been rhodium plated as they are a whiter colour than steel.  Normally this is done on white gold cases and bracelets, and this has the similar look but uses a more affordable base metal.   The movement inside is branded a Girard-Perregaux 100-963, which is based on a Peseux 7001.  These manual wind movements are very good, and despite being introduced in 1971 they are still in production today badged as an ETA 7001.  Their main benefit was they were very slim, allowing a fashionably svelte case.  The dial has a few age marks, but is original, and the hands have some staining.  The bracelet has been cleaned in our ultrasonic bath, and may have had some extension pieces fitted at one time.

This watch will be supplied with our branded presentation box and our Certificate of Authenticity.
