A very cool Corum dress watch with rectangular case and a good quality manual wind movement. Model reference 57155.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
Without sales papers or an inscription, Corum watches are hard to date. The first Corum watches were made in 1956, and in 1965 later the Buckingham range of square cased Corum watches was launched. This watch isn’t a Buckingham model (we have had them before though), and the movement used in this watch was not in production until 1971. Given this, this watch can not be older than 1971 but may be newer.
CONDITION
Inside the gold plated case lies a 21 jewel, manual wind movement with just two hands. For the simplest of movements, 23 jewels is exceptionally high and it was also adjusted to three positions, which shows the detail Corum went to. It is based on a very good Peseux 7001, still working well, and this slim movement allows a very shallow case depth of under 6mm. The dial is very clean in both design and condition. The case has some marks to the rear, but looks great on the wrist. The leather strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour or material if preferred but we will be limited by the slightly unusual 21mm lug width to what we can buy. The watch is signed on the dial, case, movement, crown and buckle.
