A very attractive Swiss Sandoz chronograph with great blue dial, with a Valjoux 7733 movement inside.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
We know that the movement was made between 1969 and 1978, and the back of the case is stamped 69. This may be coincidence, but with the lack of other dating information it is a best guess. We have found adverts from 1967 for another Sandoz watch with an earlier logo, and another 1972 advert has the same logo as this watch.
CONDITION
Henri Sandoz started his factories in the 1890’s in Tavannes, Switzerland. They produced a few different brands but the most successful were Cyma and Sandoz. In 1971, Licenses were sold to produce Sandoz watches in Hong Kong, Singapore and Spain as well as Switzerland, but it is the Swiss ones that collectors prefer.
This is a Swiss made watch, fitted with the popular Valjoux 7733 manual wind chronograph movement. This seventeen jewel movement has a 45 minute chronograph dial at 3, and constant seconds at the 9 subdial. The central chronograph hand is a very bold red, making it easy to read against the deep blue dial. The chronograph pushers have lost some of the plating, but they work the movement perfectly. The chrome case has a few marks, but the dial is the real star of the show. It is in very good condition, and the tritium lume plots are all present and correct. The stainless steel bracelet is new, and does not require any special tools to adjust.
