Still on the original bracelet, this Memovox GT alarm watch from Jaeger-LeCoultre looks and sounds great. Model reference E861.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number on the movement we can date this watch to being made circa 1968. The movement used in this watch stopped production in 1969, so this watch can not be much later that 1968. We have also found an advert featuring this Memovox GT model with Concorde in the background, who’s inaugural flight was in March 1969.
CONDITION
The calibre K825 bumper automatic was unusual for the time, with most companies having abandoned bumper automatics by the 1960’s. But an alarm watch has a hammer striking a pin on the case back, so full rotor automatics don’t make as much noise and vibration as the manual watches and a bumper automatic is the perfect engineering solution. The crowns on this watch appear to have been replaced, but otherwise the watch is all original. The dial has a few minor marks, and likewise the case is also worn with scuffs and a dink near the bottom right lug, shown in the video. The alarm is good and loud, and it is wound and set via the crown at two. The alarm disc is possibly 10-12 minutes out, so the alarm goes a little earlier than indicated. The original NSA bracelet is the real stand out item with this watch and even ones not stamped for Jaeger-LeCoultre can be worth hundreds. This Memovox GT is a good watch made better by the bracelet.
