HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
Roamer first registered the Anfibio name in 1955, so this watch much be later than that. The latest patent number proudly engraved on the case back is also for 1955. The particular movement design in this watch was in production between 1962 and 1973, but we have seen watches dated to 1968 that have a newer logo. So we narrow these factors down and think this watch was produced circa 1965.
CONDITION
Roamer date back to 1888, and were a very well respected brand. They didn’t do so well during the quartz crisis of the 1970’s, where they stopped making their own in house movements and quality fell, but as this watch pre dates that period of history we are okay. This Anfibio does have the in house calibre 430 hand winding movement, with centre seconds and semi quick set date. This is all running well and has been well protected with the unique and patented case, which was designed to be waterproof. The design also stops people who don’t know what they are doing looking or fiddling with the movement, as they won’t know how to access the movement. The crown is signed but may be a later replacement – it is steel and not 20 micron gold plated like the rest of the case. The case is generally good, but there is some signs of pitting on the rear of the case – this is not visible when wearing the watch. The leather strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour if preferred.
