With a lovely linen dial to complement the 18k yellow gold case, this Marvin is an attractive piece and good value.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the import hallmark on the inside of the case back we can date this watch to being assayed in 1964. As it is an import mark it could be the watch was produced in the years previously, and then shipped to and assayed in England.
CONDITION
Marvin watches go back to 1850, albeit with a gap in the 1980’s as they failed to adapt to quartz technology as part of MSR group (which also included Vulcain and Revue-Thommen). The quartz crisis was a long way away when this gold watch was made. This has a seventeen jewel, manual wind movement stamped Calibre 515. As well as being nicely finished, it has shock protection on both the balance and the escape wheel which is quite unusual. It is powered by winding the signed crown. The case is correctly marked with both Swiss and British hallmarks for 18k gold, and if you look closely there is crosshatching on the lugs. The dial has some patina but it is not bad for the style of dial – linen dials always seem to have dirt on their surface. The photos do seem to capture some shadows and reflections that do not show it at its best, so it is definitely worth checking the video. The dark brown leather strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour if preferred.
This watch will be supplied with our branded presentation box and our Certificate of Authenticity.

From 1st September 2021 we will be planting a tree for every watch we sell, working with the International Tree Foundation (Est 1922) to make this business positive on carbon. By buying anything pre owned you are effectively reusing what already exists, but this takes it further and makes us feel good.
