HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
The Titoni brand developed from Felca, and was first launched as Titoni in 1952. The company is still making watches, and you can read more about their history here. While we can not be absolutely certain about the year this was made, we know the movement was in production in the late 1950’s and early 1960’s, so we have picked a mid point year.
CONDITION
There are several reasons to buy this watch. The first is the looks – it is a very handsome piece, and at 38mm much larger than many of this period (a Rolex Day Date for example would be 36mm). For many the looks alone would be enough, but they are backed up with quality. While the case is 20 micron gold plated, the fluted bezel is 14k gold – this is stamped on the case back. There is a scratch on the bezel, but this would be terrible if the bezel was plated and isn’t as noticeable on solid gold. The movement used is an AS1895, normally found in the Tudor Day Date – which cost multiples of the price of the Cosmo King. The same movement can also be found in Blancpain and Girard-Perregaux watches, so this is the level of quality. It has twenty five jewels, and semi quick set date – we show how to set the day and date in the video. The crown is signed, but the gold capped has worn off. The original, jet black dial is in great shape and has a tiny stone set at six which we presume is a diamond – if it were not you might pick a larger stone. There may be some tiny bits of debris on the dial. The leather strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour if preferred.
