This 25mm ladies Baume & Mercier watch has a dark grey dial that looks black in some lights, and a nice manual wind movement.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
It is not easy to date Baume & Mercier vintage watches, but the movement used in this watch first became available in 1959. Later versions of the same movement changed the setting lever from a screw to a pin pusher, and this uses the earlier screw setting. With that information, we know the watch can’t be older than 1959 and won’t be too much newer (if any).
CONDITION
With a history going back to 1830, Baume & Mercier now how to make a good watch. A new ladies Baume & Mercier watch starts at over £1,000, and if you want a mechanical and not quartz movement then that watch starts at over £2,500. Ladies vintage watches always look a bargain though, as too few women collect them. The movement used in this watch is a branded a Baume & Mercier BM775, which is heavily based on an ETA 2512. This 17 jewel, hand wound movement is all working well and you will obviously never need to worry about a flat battery if the watch is not worn daily and saved for best. The dial is attractive, and darker dials are quite rare in older ladies watches. The stainless steel case is bigger than many at the time, which helps with modern tastes. The crown has a blue cabochon polished stone set into it, much like Cartier watches use. The leather strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour or material if preferred. The watch is signed on the dial, case and movement.
